Flamenco
by
Puesta Del Sol Elementary School1
Description
Flamenco dance and music has a long and colorful past. Originating from the region of Spain called Andalusia, it has become hugely popular all over the world. In 2010, Flamenco was declared a World Heritage Treasure by UNESCO. Classes are filled with friendships, rhythm, and an atmosphere that lets the kids have fun, enjoy, and grow their own different artistic talents. Flamenco dance includes lots of footwork--especially stomping! Students will also learn hand clapping and finger snapping patterns to flamenco rhythms, arm and hand movements for both boys and girls, and to hold their bodies like proud dancers. Our Monday afternoon class, from 3:35pm to 4:30pm, will focus on beginning Flamenco. This class is for younger students in grades Kindergarten to 2nd Grade.

Capoeira
by
Puesta Del Sol Elementary School1
Description
Capoeira is a cultural art form that is rooted in the country of Brazil this sport and art incorporates multiple elements that are extremely beneficial to child development. I use fun and engaging games where the students start to build their coordination, listening skills, and confidence while learning the foundational movements of Capoeira. As the students begin to learn the movements and their names (all in Portuguese ) the games and content of everything becomes more involved and the class evolves along with the students. I also put focus on the music side of the art form introducing them to a variety of percussion instruments that they learn to play and songs they sing and again all in Portuguese.
