Around the World STEAM Academy

DescriptionWe are excited to partner with Once Upon Adventures to offer our students entering 1st and 2nd grade an exciting LEGO robotics-focused Summer STEAM Academy! Spoiler Alert: Explorers will start their adventure on a virtual field trip to the Tower of London where, unbeknownst to them, they will receive a top-secret message informing them that some of the Royal Collection of Jewels have gone missing! Explorers will embark on a quest that will take them through England, France, Italy, and Egypt to solve the mystery of the missing jewels! On their journey they will encounter problems to solve, and tackle STEAM challenges with the help of famous artists, architects and scientists! Classified Information: The activities below will be revealed as students face unexpected challenges on their quest to complete their mission! • Build an electric racecar and compete in the Formula 1 World Championship! • Construct LEGO replicas of the Eiffel Tower and the Pyramids of Giza! • Engineer a model of the Tower Bridge in London! • Program robots to perform tasks and assist in an archaeological dig! • Create a mosaic masterpiece influenced by the Spanish architect, Antoni Gaudi! • Make an optical illusion inspired by the work of Leonardo da Vinci! • Decrypt Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic messages. • Solve math logic puzzles to earn materials needed to conquer STEAM challenges!

Scratch: Beyond Basics

DescriptionDive deeper into the world of coding with our Intermediate Scratch Coding class tailored for young programmers in Grades 2-4. This course goes beyond the basics, introducing students to more complex concepts and projects. Students will enhance their problem-solving skills, creativity, and logical thinking as they explore the potential of Scratch programming. Class Objectives: Strengthen understanding of Scratch fundamentals. Introduce intermediate programming concepts. Encourage creativity through complex projects. Develop debugging and troubleshooting skills. Foster collaborative and independent coding experiences.

Sports & Fitness

DescriptionWith the help of our Muscle Zoo friends, we teach the fundamentals of martial arts in this high-energy progression-based program. Students learn & practice the traditions & skills of the sport, and receive colored belts and stripes for their achievement. Hi-yah!

Art Extension for Kindergarten

DescriptionIn this art classes, Kindergarten students can go above and beyond what we are learning in the art room to explore Visual Thinking Strategies writing, going more in depth with World Artists, and exploring the world of talking about art and improving our own artwork with the Elements of Art, Principles of Design and Art Critique. This class directly correlates and extends what they've learned in class so wouldn't be helpful for 1st graders- they can sign up for the 1st grade Art Extension class.
