DescriptionIn this hands-on class, we will explore the traditional art of block printing, a technique used for creating vibrant designs and patterns on various surfaces. Block printing is one of the oldest methods of printing, originating in ancient civilizations, and it remains a popular and versatile craft today. In this class, we will explore a variety of types of printing materials, such as rubber stamps, potatoes, foam, and carved stamps. We will create prints and patterns on paper, greeting cards, and fabric such as tea towels. Half the class will be devoted specifically to block printing. We will learn and master the technique of carving designs into rubber blocks and then how to apply paint to your block to ensure crisp and vibrant prints. This class encourages students to play, experiment, and create beautiful products they can bring home.
I am Courtney, an artist, illustrator, and mom to a kindergartner and ECL-er at Oak Knoll. I am excited to pass along my knowledge and love of block printing to the Oak Knoll Community.
